A really interesting photoshoot this morning at Tadberry Evedale printers in Peckham, South London for an insurance client wanting some creative shots for the new website
I really love this type of brief, as well as getting the more usual photographs I had a chance to capture the details of these beautiful old traditional printing machines.

This morning I was in London photographing the interior of the new Tomasso Brothers gallery on Duke Street, St James

Last night I was photographing an event at RADA for the 'Digital Production Partnership' highlighting the impact of digital production on broadcasting.
The report addresses the key question about the digital revolution in broadcasting: is it changing creativity – and if so how?

Earlier in the year I spent a day travelling around London visiting some of HOC Constructions recently completed projects and work in progress sites. This is where being a photographer who carries a CSCS card for site access really helps!
The light inside this church in North London was stuuning and lasted just long enough for me to photograph it.
Photos like this can really work full page with space for text over the bottom half.
A beautiful February day in London.
Mixing the old buildings with the new.
Dynamic angles and plenty of negative space for text or branding.
Take a look at how the brochure turned out here.

I first met Miles Allen at a Chamber of Commerce business networking meeting, an unusual place to meet an author pushing his debut novel. But Miles is doing this all off his own back.
His first book “Walkers of Legend” is a pretty gripping read too, I’d certainly recommend it if you like your fantasy fiction stuff.
In Miles’ words "My goal is a story that pulls you in. A story that you want to keep reading. I have categorized it as a fantasy because there is some magic, but really it's just as powerful a story as I could make. The characters too are as real and compelling as I could create them: some are heroes with flaws, others are weak with hidden strengths. They stand against a terrible enemy. Not all of them want to..."
Withthe 2nd part due for release this summer, Miles got in touch as he needed some headshot portraits to go with the promotion of the book. We decided on Rochester as the location as well as being local to us both, the medieval style of town fits in well with the theme of the Walkers of Legend books.
Miles is the first Author I have taken editorial portraits of, he was drawn to me as he liked my style and had seen some of my band and musician promo photography. He was a natural in front of camera, even though he said he felt a bit nervous to begin with I really couldn’t tell.

So stoked to wake up on Monday morning and find out that I have been awarded my Associate of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (ASWPP). I've had my Licentiate with the SWPP for a while and wanted to improve on my qualification so I sent in a panel of images a few weeks back, which are then judged by 5 of the top photographers in the society.
"At this standard, we are viewing images that not only display a high degree of technical ability, but also portray imagination and creativity in execution and presentation. These are important factors that often go hand in hand with higher prices as this qualification is held by the top 10% of practitioners"
Don't worry though, I'm not suddenly going to whack my prices up!

I've had a couple of enquiries recently for corporate portrait photography or headshots as they are sometimes called. Each of the emails are started with "..is this something you do?" I realised that I didnt have a dedicated section to this style of work on my site. So this morning I have set up a gallery of my corporate portrait photography, a few examples of which can be seen on this post.
This area of work can be so varied, some clients are looking for headshots against a plain background while others come to me as they like the band and model photography I do and what something a bit more exciting and off the wall to represent their company. Such as this business portrait of success and life coach Dave Kibby.
It is also a popular choice to have a more informal portrait with the office as the backdrop.
Whichever type of business portrait you are looking for to represent your company, please get in touch.

Recently a new company moved into the office building I rent space in, Eight.3 are an LED lighting company with lots of shinny or glowing new products that need photographing. I love product photography or packshots as some call it, esspecially when its raining as much as it has been recently. I get to stay in my nice dry studio taking photographs! I wanted ti create something a bit better that the average shot I had seen of lighting components on the internet. So I went with a similar idea to the timelapse photograph I do for before and after my building and interior design photography.

Last friday I was shooting for a PR company, a nice local job on the same development as my offices, The Bridge, Dartford.
However it was an unusual subject, a Bee Hotel. Now I'm used to photographing in Hotels, In fact I was shortlisted for "Interior Architecture Photographer of the year" this year for one of my hotel shoots, but I'd never seen a bee hotel before. The Client was the local Premier Inn and Beefeater restaurant, who will be planting a wildflower garden near their site in Dartford.

They are currently in the process of setting up their website and I'm usually asked to photograph before and after images of the Kitchens and Bathrooms. But this week it made a nice change to be shooting a bedroom.

I am The SWPP Event photographer of the Year 2011.
Judges comment: “The emotion of the image was caught at just the right moment and makes the viewer wish that they were there.”
As I posted a couple of weeks back I had been nominated for 2 SWPP Photographer of the year awards.
Well, the award ceremony was held in London on Sunday night, hosted by the Society of Wedding and Portrait photographers. The award winners were announced by TV presenter Phillipa Forester.
Thankfully I didn't have too long to wait for my categories as they where read out in alphabetical order. Sadly I was only a runner up in the Interior Architecture photographer of the Year category, the winner being the extremely talented Maltese photographer Christopher Azzopardi.
But the good news is that I won the Event photographer of the year 2011 for my photograph taken at the Bloodstock Festival.
I'm the one with the moustache, which was partly grown as a dare for the awards ceremony, I didn't even know I had been nominated for an award when I accepted the challenge!
Press Release:
'Event Photographer of the Year 2011' has been awarded to Dartford based photographer Martin Hobby. The Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (SWPP) presented Martin with this prestigious accolade at their 2011 annual awards ceremony. The dinner was hosted this year by SWPP’s own Juliet Jones and television presenter Philippa Forrester.
