Headshot photography workshop
"The easiest person to photograph is someone who already knows they look good. Unfortunately, those people rarely book corporate headshots."
In this 3-hour practical workshop, Martin will explore how to create better portraits by understanding the person in front of the camera.
Most people don't enjoy having their photograph taken. They feel awkward, they don't know what to do with their hands, and many will tell you they're "not photogenic".
With over 30 years of experience photographing everyone from corporate teams and business leaders to people who would rather avoid the camera completely, Martin will share the practical techniques and insights that help turn nervous subjects into relaxed, confident portraits.
This interactive workshop is about much more than lighting. You'll explore how communication, trust and direction play a huge role in creating authentic images, alongside practical techniques for producing professional headshots in a variety of situations.
During the workshop you'll explore:
-
Why people dislike being photographed and how to change their experience
-
How to build rapport quickly with someone you've just met
-
Simple techniques for helping people relax in front of the camera
-
How to give direction without making people feel awkward
-
Reading body language and adapting your approach
-
Lighting approaches that work in different locations
-
Creating consistent, professional headshots without complicated setups
-
How being photographed yourself can make you a better portrait photographer
Perfect for photographers wanting to improve their headshot and portrait photography, build confidence working with people, and create images that feel natural, authentic and professional.

Feedback from previous workshops

"I liked how simplified everything was. Sometimes you can do in person or online workshops and they have all the most expensive gear and equipment and it can seem unrealistic to achieve the same results unless you spend thousands. Martin is great at breaking information down and delivering it in a simple and easy to understand manner. Looking at his headshots I initially thought you’d need 3/4 lights but to see what can be achieved with one light and a white board was incredible."
Gary Oakley
"The variations of setup for different situations. Showing the 'bad' and what can be changed to make it a good photo, then tweaked again to make it a great photo."
John Rob
"I like the informal style and the fact you can chip in questions when they arise. It felt really tailored to the needs of the group on the day which was great."

"You obviously have a great process but you also have a really nice relaxed presentation style that made the day go by so quickly and also felt nothing wasn't explained/understandable. As above, a great chance to spend the day reflecting on my current style and learning how to use your approach to make beautiful images"

"Great, clear info presented without any ego. Great tips and not overly technical"

"Martin was an open book - this was fantastic for me as I had the basic knowledge but had some gaps & Martin helped to fill these for me."
Anonymous feedback
"I really liked how personal it felt and that Martin was so open and honest. Sometimes photography workshops feel like you're on someone else's ego trip but this wasn't like that at all. Just felt like someone who was really passionate and experienced was sharing what they knew, which is what it should be like but it often isn't!"

"Very informative and very open with your prices and procedures which was very useful. Thank you!!!"
Ernie Savarese
"It wasn’t overly technical and felt relaxed and safe to ask any questions and not feel daft."
Justine Burton
"Martin was approachable, you felt comfortable asking any photography based questions & get an understandable answer."

"Martin was great, liked how open and honest he was. I liked how it was an open format regarding questions and how it can go in any direction."
